:help: Hey.....anybody out there who has experience with pole saws ?

I know the Stihls are brilliant but dont have that much work for one to justify $1,000.

Are any of the cheapies reliable and work well ? :dunno:

All thoughts and suggestions appreciated. 8-)

Will watch replies with interest. I really want one to trim branches hanging over my fence from the next door neighbours gums which are restricting sun to my veg patch. I just can't imagine how they would work that well given that with my normal chainsaw I have issues with getting stuck at times - so in a situation where I am using a low powered one on a pole on a branch I cannot get to, I just wonder.

I got a B&D battery powered pole saw for under $200. I did look at Stihl when I got the chainsaw but even the salesman said they were too expensive unless you had a business(yeah over $1000 :shock2: )
Anyway, amazingly enough the B&D has been brilliant. I cut a bluegum limb about 10cm diameter without a hitch. Much better for thinner branches though as the battery will need recharging more often with the big stuff. Battery is charged in about an hour. I think it goes to about 2.7m stretch. :thumb:

I've got a none powered saw on a pole to get low branches. And I've also got a rope saw. That one is great for getting branches down. Its a chain saw blade on a rope. You throw the weighted end over a branch and pull the rope till the blade is around the branch. It cuts through any size branches. And because it cuts from the top you don't have to worry about the blade getting stuck.

I know they work well...despite their small size, have used them a lot with the SES that I'm with.
There are a lot of chinese/korean [whatever] ones around, just wondering if anyone has one of those.
Apparantly the Shindawa [sp] is reliable.
