Are you sure about that? Have you ever tried to take a pig for a walk? How about this... get Eddy to ride the yard tractor and you hang on to a lead rope. If you can direct his steering and are able to stop the tractor with a lead rope, you won't have any trouble taking a pig for a walk.

I kinda like pigs. They are fun to watch, intelligent, and even look good when they are young.
But the ones that I've known and worked with... a fitting name might be...
Dr Destructo from all the pens that it tore down and the destruction that followed
Ms Mayhem - See above
Sir Had-A-Lot (of flowers, that is)
Monsieur Me-First - from stepping and jumping over his brothers to get to the food first
Mrs MeatPacker - from her larglyness, and her biglyness, and her just plain hugeliness from eating all the damn time
So much for a pet. (/rant)

With that being said... I'd like to have a couple more someday. But I would make an incredibly secure pen large enough that they can roll in the mud in one area (to cool off - they don't sweat like us or pant like a dog), a shelter in another area (they don't like to get rained on), a concrete water tank in another area (they'll flip the full plastic water tank over every day just for fun), and a place they can, um... do their business (they are actually clean animals in that respect).

And you might want to get two as they are social animals.
They'll actually fall over from the ecstasy of having their backs scratched with a corncob or yard rake.

What kind of pig were you thinking of getting?
Go for it. Have fun.

Hi Mr Bill, a miniature pig is what I have in mind - 40cm (16 inches). Love the names that you mentioned, I am thinking of calling it Crackle, but not for eating. Designing the pens and researching training and vet services in case of emergency. Lots to find out, as it is not common in these here parts. Eddy suggested "The Hog Blog" to update details of the life of the pet pig :thumb:
I think they are as easy to train as a dog, mmm, I may have to really work at it

A mineature pig? Oh. Well now, that's an entirely different story. Don't know anything about those... except they are small. LOL

Have fun.

Eddy has been working on a new shelter for our pet pig, made from an old pergola that my dad delivered to us a few years ago. The roof is made from a couple of roller doors from another friend that installs new ones. The back of Brads shelter is made from a damaged sectional door that has clear panes allowing light in.

Brad Pigg has moved in to his new barn and just loves it.

The remnant sweet potato patch is getting dug over and when we follow along after him we get lucky in finding some of his freshly dug sweet potatoes.

Here is a look back from quite a few years ago. You may laugh, but don't be too harsh, I still had the L plates on with a few things!

Smoked trout dip and homegrown veges with a meat selection. Mmm maybe one day we can grow us some beef or pigs that aren't just pets.

Eddy won't like you Mike :sad2: He loves Brad Pigg, and will not allow him to become a xmas pork roast. I tell you what though, pigs make good feed conversion ratio of scraps to meat. Brad is well over 40 kilos now and a four month old pig is quite a big bigger than a rabbit or chicken, (or even fish for that matter) of the same age. They are fun to keep when they are little, run around and play with the dogs, run with the chickens and just lurves the duck, barks like a dog and sits on command.
