Yes Faye, just concentrating on breathing in and out this week!!
Here are some pics of the result of the fire on the 11th...41 degrees and some idiot decides to light a fire....it seemed to start in our neighbours and then ran through the back of ours behind the veggie garden and orchard-

Several hours later, after the wonderful efforts of fire fighters, this is what remains of 5 of our 10 acres.....

BUT- our home and animals, all the area around the house-orchard and veggie garden etc are all fine, unlike the neighbours at the back of us who were burnt right up to their verandah!
So yes Faye, just catching up on some breath this week, thanks!!

So does someone get charged for lighting that fire?

I was enjoying your thread... up until those last few pictures. That's terrible. Really sorry to see such destruction. But glad you are alright and it didn't take everything.

I'm over in the US, so we are seasonal opposites, but still gleaned quite a bit of info from your thread. Just starting out in earnest growing food and plants to eat and sell from our property. Very encouraging to see all the things that you are trying, and succeeding at. I'll keep an eye on this and other threads on this forum.

Thanks for posting.

Nature sure is clever- the regrowth after the fire is amazing. It still looks like a moonscape, but there are flashes of green in several places....

Love the new worm farm. I see you went for the old bathtub rather than the old fridge. Either way looks well constucted, functional and looks the part too!

:) Why thank you...
we tried for ages to get a decommissioned fridge, then realised an old bath was just as good and we already had one!!

I know we could really do with more rain here in WA, but the warm sunny weather is great for the garden! The autumn bed is growing well (though so are the weeds!). I am having another go at growing potatoes in the drums, but this time adding more compost rather than just straw, so hopefully the potatoes will grow throughout the depth of the drum (unlike last years when they only grew in the soil at the bottom).

Picked the last parsnip from last season...it is great that they just store in the ground for so long!

And our newly set up aquaponics system is going very well too!

Now we just need the rain!

The wheat is starting to sprout! That heavy rain was just what it needed to really embed it in the soil. There are still quite a few birds around helping themselves to what is on the surface, but it looks like we will have sheep feed :thumb:

Had to do quite a tidy up this weekend from the many branches fallen during last weekend's storm. This was just one of the three piles of branches collected. We will drag them down the back to cover the ground in the areas affected by the fire.

There were quite a few melaleuca and kunzea either broken like this or completely blown over in the strong winds.
