Yeh, one of them was a lady in gooseberry hill (near the primary school) I didnt catch her name though.

After whipper snip this week I am now able to post a photo that is not just rye grass jungle

Also started operation foxproof given the new chooks arrive Sunday. Ripped out the old solid roost area which will be replaced with perches and concreted the floor (let's see a fox get through that!!). The coup will be enclosed completley and the new chooks will spend a few months in it until they get big enough to not be hassled by crows and hawks.


Previously it was open but will now have a door so as to allow for lockup each night if we want. The remainder of the pen will also get some work done to it so we do not have to lockup every night but that can wait at the moment.

New side door for easy access to the coup and new front security mesh with trapdoor on the walkway and we are ready for action.


Happy new recruits lets just hope there are not to many roosters




Also got a chance to plant the new spanish orange into the chicken pen, a couple of asparagus crowns into the vege patch and collect another swarm of bees to make a new hive

One each of a gold lace wyandotte, silver laced wyandotte, light sussex, australorp and the brown one is an australorp crossed with I think (from memory) a rhode island red. Hopefully they are all girls but I am trying not to get my hopes up as the seller says she will do her best but is not a pro so can't guarantee them.

We are missing having any layers at the moment, but hopefully it will only be a few months.

Very nice, we have all but the silver laced wyandotte. Rhode island reds are great meat birds but we found they didn't lay until 7 months old. We have a gold laced wyandotte sitting on 19 eggs at the moment, I need to mark them when she gets off. I also plan to breed my Light sussex.

So I know who to call if mine is a rooster

I already have three beautiful Light sussex roosters. Ok one has attacked me on 3 occasions now. He won at the Royal show and cost me a bomb so he lives again rather than goin to the pots.

Those latest larger images are hosted on photobucket, not uploaded. Got sick of resized images being rejected so just swapped to linking as a few other forums I use require it and I already had the account setup.

Harvest day for the chillis this arvo and a few egg plants and a black capsicum to top it off. The cilli was all topped and will be dried and tured into chilli flakes.

Getting ready for a big rip out and replant for the new season. Maybe this weekend
