We have success with it but it is still not great big long red stems. The snails seem to appear from knowhere overnight to meanance the leave unless I bait weekly. This surprises me given the leaves are supposedly toxic and they are knowhere else in the garden.

Are red stems able to be promoted by adding certain nutrients?

Did I mention I love apple and rhubarb pie so this is really important

For those who don't have rhubarb I have been playing around with the seedlings you can get in punnets. If you pot them out and are happy to look after them and wait you can get decent crowns in 12 months. Saves a few dollars given how much a potted crown costs.

Not sure mate, how old is the plant?

Mine is a few years old and I only started to get the long red stems after 1 year, I just fertilize with manure like every other plant, no special secret that I know of.

Current plants are a year old. They seem to be doing pretty well at the moment, it might be a weather and moisture thing. They were rescued from some ap beds at when cleaned out, and were not to happy there. I lost my last lot a couple of years ago in dirt as it was to wet and they did not like it.

My one is a few months old ,they dont love the sub tropics we will see what happens
