Shadecloth from eaves to fence?

The side of our house is a furnace. The wall is facing NE, in between two houses, contains no vegetation and a colorbond fence. I want to make the house cooler but I can't plant directly into the ground there as the sewer and stormwater run down there. Plants need to be potted, but they burn to a crisp in summer.

My idea is to put sections of cream shadecloth from the eaves to the fence, but I'm not sure how to attach them without a lot of drilling, having it look cheap, or hooking over the neighbour's side.

Has anyone seen this, done this, or know of a product for this?

Bunning's have a product to hold shade cloth to your fence they are long flat alloy with a v that a plastic v strip locks into and holds the shade cloth

Brilliant! I've been looking but I haven't spotted them. Now I know what I'm asking for I'll try again :-) I thought something must exist for the job, seems like something people are likely to want to do.

What type of fence is it?

Also, be warned, you will get the blame should the fence fall down or need repair as you have attached something to it which could have put pressure on the fence......

No....I'm not bitter, after being asked to remove something similar from my place by the council.

Oh blast, I thought I'd mentioned that :-( That might change things.

It is 6' Colorbond, so no chance of screws or nails, and it'll have to be padded to stop it clanging in the wind. I doubt the fence will move at all, even if I attached very heavy things to it. Everything here seems to have enough cement holding it down that it'll take an awful lot to move it.

I'd be bitter. I'd be particularly bitter if they decided to kick up a stink after approving a house with no eaves to be built so close to another house without eaves that we essentially have a shared cooktop between the houses. I kind of wish the neighbours were owners and not renters so we could just arrange for something to go gutter to gutter, but then I'm sure that would have its own problems.

Maybe just some flat hardwood and some clamps will do the trick for now.

Can you bang in star pickets near the fence and run ag pipe from the facia to the star picket, attaching the shade cloth to the ag pipe?

I put supports from my gutters to the fence the fence cant move at all and it stops sag in the shade cloth

If the fence has ridge capping you can remove it pull the shadecloth over and replace. We did that once, had to do it from the neighbours side,(with their permission) it was neat and lasted years.
